Hollywood is going through one of the most critical moments in its history, because for the first time in more than 60 years, scriptwriters and actors are together on strike. The Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) called a strike months ago that is still ongoing, and now it seems like it could reach the video game industry.

SAG-AFTRA has launched a vote among its members in which they want to see if the actors who work in the world of video games would be interested in taking part in the strike. Like their professional colleagues, video game actors seek increases in their benefits and job protection against artificial intelligence, as well as mandatory 5-minute breaks for every hour of work.

What is the Hollywood actors and screenwriters’ strike looking for?

With the strike, SAG-AFTRA seeks to achieve a fair economic agreement, but for the moment the film companies are not willing to give up their profits. The strike has become one of the most critical moments in Hollywood history, paralyzing all productions in progress and causing a significant number of delays and cancellations. The producers themselves, who are suffering this impact and are greatly affected by the strike, are ultimately an important part of what is happening.

The upcoming September 26 Negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and the video game companies will begin, an important moment in a labor dispute that is affecting Hollywood and could go further. The companies that would face a possible strike are the following:

  • Activision Productions Inc.
  • Blindlight LLC.
  • Disney Character Voices Inc.
  • Electronic Arts Productions Inc.
  • Epic Games, Inc.
  • Formosa Interactive LLC.
  • Insomniac Games Inc.
  • Take Two Productions Inc.
  • VoiceWorks Productions Inc.
  • Warner Bros Games Inc.
