Star Wars

Star Wars: We thought they were gone, but this character will star in a new series

The new animated series premieres May 4 on Disney+, shortly after the release of Andor.

Star Wars Tales of the Underworld

When Disney acquired Lucasfilm, it was established that Star Wars novels would be canon. Stories told in video games, comics, and books became part of the saga’s timeline, alongside movies and series, or so it seemed. Occasionally, contradictions arise. For instance, in the novel ‘Dark Disciple’, the fate of Count Dooku’s former apprentice, Asajj Ventress, seemed definitive. However, Dave Filoni made a bold choice, bringing Ventress back in ’The Bad Batch‘. Now, she’s set to star in the animated series ’Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld‘.

Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld’ is a series of six animated shorts similar to ’Tales of the Jedi’ and ’Tales of the Empire‘, already available on Disney+. This time, the focus will be on two prominent bounty hunters: Asajj Ventress and Cad Bane. The series debuts on May 4 on Disney+, aligning with Star Wars Day celebrations.

Spoiler alert about Asajj Ventress

Asajj Ventress trained as a Jedi until her master, Ky Narec, was killed, leaving her orphaned and adrift. Count Dooku manipulated her circumstances, using her as a pawn. Though she never fully became a Sith, she was eventually betrayed by her master, and vengeance consumed her. During her journey, the Jedi Order made the drastic decision to assassinate Dooku, assigning Jedi Quinlan Vos to the mission. Ventress teamed up with him, and the two fell in love. Together, they faced Dooku, but Ventress lost her life, or so it seemed.

In ’The Bad Batch‘, it’s revealed that Ventress survived, though Lucasfilm announced that the reason behind her survival would be explained in another project. Perhaps ’Tales of the Underworld’ will finally unveil the mystery. Was it a Jedi scheme? Interpretations abound, but fitting this into the narrative may not be straightforward. However, the creators have emphasized their respect for the original novel.
