Starfield was optimized for PC, but Todd Howard says “you may need to upgrade your PC”

Todd Howard said that the game is optimized on live TV, hinting that people might need to get a PC upgrade to play their game if it’s not working.

Starfield

Starfield is a new-generation game. That’s the argument director Todd Howard used when asked by a Bloomberg reporter about optimizing the game on PC. According to the also creator of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the title has been optimized for PCs, but players will need hardware that is suitable for a next-gen product.

“Why did you not optimize this game for PC?”, asked the reporter from Bloomberg Technology, taking the question from audience suggestions. “Um, we did,” said Howard. “It’s running great. It is a next-gen PC game, we really do push the technology, so you may need to upgrade your PC for this game. But it’s got a lot of great stuff going on in it, and the fans are responding awesome.”

Starfield, the most played exclusive game on Xbox?

In the same interview, Phil Spencer, head of the Xbox division, confirmed Starfield’s good numbers: “We can see people playing, which is great, on the platform. You might know, the game has been in Preview since last week and it is already our most played exclusive game on Xbox.” According to the executive, and as corroborated by the data straight from the players, it has also been a success on Steam.

Regarding the possible exclusivity of The Elder Scrolls VI, Spencer recalled that they analyze on a case-by-case basis whether a game is multiplatform or not. In another interview, Todd Howard defended Starfield as being a better product thanks to its Xbox exclusive status, as it has allowed them to focus on fewer platforms.

Starfield launched on September 6 for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC, and Game Pass.
