Starfield would have been released later if there was a PS5 version, says Bethesda
Bethesda boss Pete Hines says the team has benefited from focusing on a single console.
Despite the occasional delay, the end of Starfield’s development is near, and barring disaster, it will be ready for final release in September. This would not have been the case if the game had had a PlayStation 5 version, as Bethesda itself has assured.
“In my opinion, no, this game would not be coming out in 9 weeks if we were supporting an entirely different platform,” Bethesda chief Pete Hines said during one of the hearings with the FTC. “Focusing on fewer platforms was a huge benefit to the team. If we had launched on more, it would have taken more time and cost more. It’s a much bigger risk to me.”
What was shown in the last Xbox Showcase, framed in the Summer Game Fest, conquered everyone thanks to a gigantic universe and the multiple possibilities of absolutely everything: creation and customization of the ship, combat... It promises to be one of the largest games of all time.
Starfield, exclusive to PS5?
And that was not only planned to come to PS5, but Sony was willing to make it exclusive to its console, as we learned just a few days ago, and that led Microsoft to make a move and carry out the purchase of Bethesda. This was acknowledged by Phil Spencer in the trial with the FTC, saying that “Xbox had to change that.”
Today, Starfield is almost ready for release, and according to Matt Booty, head of Xbox Game Studios, it would have " the fewest bugs that any game from Bethesda has ever shipped with. “We’ve been playing the game for quite a while and that’s the game,” said Phil Spencer a few days ago, referring to what was shown during the Xbox Showcase.
Starfield will arrive next September 6 on Xbox Series and PC.
