Steam Deck OLED sold out again after Valve’s latest price increase

The law of supply and demand would have led one to expect that the price increase for the Steam Deck announced yesterday would have caused sales of Valve’s console-style PC to drop. However, the opposite turned out to be true, and once again, the Steam Deck OLED is sold out.

The Steam Deck sold out again in less than 24 hours. Even though Valve announced a price increase of between $240 and $300 yesterday, it seems that for fans looking to take their PC games on the go, the price hike wasn’t an issue. Although it’s unclear how many units were restocked yesterday, it’s surprising just how quickly they sold out.

Now the big question is, when will the Steam Deck be back in stock? It took Valve nearly three months to get the handhelds back on the market. Although it was once seen as a device that, despite its age, made PC gaming accessible to newcomers, that now seems like a distant prospect.

Price hikes continue in the video game industry.

The Steam Deck hasn’t been the only gaming device to see a recent price increase. Over the past few months, we’ve seen price hikes for consoles, such as the PlayStation 5, whose base model rose to $649, while the Pro version reached $899, and Xbox similarly increased the price of the Xbox Series X|S lineup. For its part, Nintendo announced that it plans to raise prices for the Nintendo Switch 2 by September of this year, just over 12 months after its release.
