It won’t be long—very soon—before science fiction fans can enjoy a film that aims high: ‘Disclosure Day,’ Steven Spielberg’s new movie, hits theaters worldwide on June 12. The film stars Emily Blunt (‘Oppenheimer’), Josh O’Connor (‘The Crown’), Colin Firth (‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’), Eve Hewson (‘Robin Hood’), and Colman Domingo (‘Fear the Walking Dead’). There’s a lot of buzz surrounding its release, as alien movies are always a big draw for sci-fi fans. To celebrate that the wait is almost over, you can watch the final trailer right below.
The brief official synopsis of ‘Disclosure Day’ is, if you’ll pardon the pun, very revealing: “If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? This summer, the truth belongs to eight billion people.” Not much is known about the plot, but the fact that Emily Blunt’s character—a TV weather forecaster—is chosen by beings from another planet to convey a message to the people of Earth raises an important question: Are they hostile, or are they seeking friendly contact? We’ll find out all the answers on June 12.
2026: A great year for science fiction cinema
With ‘Disclosure Day’ just around the corner (June 12), it’s worth remembering that ‘Project Salvation,’ one of the best sci-fi films of the past decade, hit theaters last March. But, as they say, the best is yet to come, as the coming months will bring some highly anticipated films for fans of the genre. On August 28, ‘The Dog Stars,’ Ridley Scott’s new post-apocalyptic film, premieres. Later, on December 18, it will be time for ‘Dune: Part 3,’ the third installment of Denis Villeneuve’s popular trilogy.
