October 20, 2023 has just been marked in red on the calendar for millions of players since the latest Nintendo Direct had a surprise right at the end: a new Mario game! Called Super Mario Bros. Wonder, this is an entirely new installment of the 2D series of the franchise that caught everyone’s attention with the various levels that we can see in its trailer.

From an elongated shadow Mario to crazy levels filled to the brim with giant enemies, to a new powerup that transforms Mario and the gang into an elephant. This new Mario game is looking to bring a much-needed refresh to the series. Also, there are plenty of playable characters this time around, including the often-forgotten yet fan-favorite Princess Daisy!

Nintendo Switch after 6 years on the market

It feels like only yesterday, but the Nintendo Switch was released on March 17, 2023. That is, 6 years and 3 months have passed since its launch. It is an amount of time closer to what we once counted as a generational cycle (during the last generations that number has been extended to several more years) and this morning we told you that Yves Guillemot, the CEO of Ubisoft, had already openly mentioned a next console from Nintendo.

The hybrid landed with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and that same year put the finishing touch to a triumphant premiere with the arrival of Super Mario Odyssey. But there are many more titles of great depth that it has left us: Xenoblade 2 and Xenoblade 3, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Splatoon 3, Kirby and the Forgotten Land and, of course, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, among others. Next stop, Pikmin 4.

In addition, the console has also gone through the workshop on more than one occasion, since beyond the standard model of the launch day, in 2019 it was slightly retouched (same console, bigger battery), later it offered us a more economic -and smaller— option with Switch Lite and the most recent to date, the model that many define as a premium: Nintendo Switch OLED.

We do not know when we will see the next Nintendo console, but the one we have in our hands today will say goodbye to 2023 in a big way thanks to Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
