‘Superman’: First look at David Corenswet’s flying effect sparks online controversy

James Gunn has shared a new teaser for his new DC movie, in which we see Superman flying at full speed, including a spin.

Superman

As the weeks go by and we get closer to its release, we are seeing more and more of ‘Superman’, DC’s new and highly anticipated Man of Steel movie, written and directed by James Gunn, who is co-directing the new DCU with Peter Safran, and starring actor David Corenswet as the new Clark Kent/Superman. So much so that both James Gunn and DC have released a new 30-second teaser trailer featuring several previously unreleased scenes, including the first full flight effect of Superman himself. A sequence that has sparked controversy on social media between critics and fans of the new vision of the famous superhero by the director of Marvel Studios' ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.

How David Corenswet’s Superman flies

While in the first trailer of ‘Superman’ we could already see the protagonist flying from his back - with his characteristic yellow logo on his cape - for just a second, in this new trailer we have the same sequence a bit more extended, with David Corenswet flying at full speed towards the camera, including a spin. Some frames that have raised the suspicion of some fans.

So much so that many social media users have criticized the actor’s flying appearance, comparing it to similar scenes of other Supermen, especially Henry Cavill’s. Beyond this minor controversy, this new teaser has left us with new sequences never seen before, such as a new look at Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor in the Arctic in what looks like his search for the Fortress of Solitude, or Superman’s own flight.

Superman’ stars David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, Rachel Brosnahan, Sara Sampaio, Skyler Gisondo, Edi Gathegi, Wendell Pierce, Maria Gabriela de Faria, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Anthony Carrigan, Sean Gunn and Pruitt Taylor Vince. Written and directed by James Gunn, the film is scheduled for release on July 11.
