James Gunn, director of the upcoming Superman Legacy and head of the new DCU alongside Peter Safran, admitted that he is “blown away” with the quality of the auditions by actors aiming to take the role of Kal-El/Clark Kent. As Deadline reported, Gunn declared that auditions are going much better than expected, with the casting process beginning this past weekend.

“Amazing amazing weekend of auditions for Superman: Legacy”, said Gunn. “I’m blown away by some of these actors, among the best I’ve ever seen or worked with.” These statements by the producer and director of DC Studios arrive like rain in May for fans of Superman and DC in general, especially after the company’s latest release, The Flash, has failed to perform as expected at the box office.

Remember that for now there is no official confirmation about which actor will be the new Superman of the new DCU by James Gunn, although a recently published list of Gunn’s favorites for the role of Superman and Lex Luthor was leaked by The Hollywood Reporter.

So much so, that it has recently been confirmed that the final auditions for the roles of Superman and Lois Lane for Superman Legacy have been taking place since June 16, with names like Nicholas Hoult, David Corenswet, and Tom Britney for Clark, and Emma Mackey, Phoebe Dynevor, and Rachel Brosnahan for Lois Lane.

Superman Legacy is scheduled to premiere on July 11, 2025.
