Superman Legacy: James Gunn reveals when filming starts, and it’s much sooner than expected
James Gunn, the writer and director of the upcoming Man of Steel movie that’ll kickstart the new DCU, confirms when the production starts.
Superman Legacy is vital to the future of DC on the big screen. Not surprisingly, it is the first individual film of Superman from the already distant Man of Steel of 2013 by Zack Snyder, with Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent, as well as kicking off the new DCU devised by James Gunn and Peter Safran, the new heads of DC Studios. And it will be James Gunn himself who’s in charge of directing this new film from a script written by himself. With a premiere planned for summer of 2025, we already have a date for the start of filming: January 2024. This was confirmed by the filmmaker himself in a well-known Wired show..
Superman Legacy begins filming in January 2024
This has been confirmed by James Gunn himself in the most recent episode of Web’s Most Searched Questions by Wired, where guest stars respond to Google’s most searched questions about themselves. And one of these questions was “Will James Gunn direct Superman Legacy??”, to which the filmmaker replies “James Gunn IS directing Superman Legacy and we start shooting in January”, thus confirming the start of the production for the long-awaited new film version of a superhero as important and iconic as Superman.
In this way, the filming will start a year and a half before its premiere, a common period of time in this type of blockbusters where the post-production phase is so important, especially due to the huge amount of CGI that must be created and perfected. Of course, at the moment it is unknown who will be the actor chosen to play the new Superman, although we do know that he will be an interpreted by someone younger than Henry Cavill, who just turned 40 years old.
Superman Legacy It is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
