Update:

James Gunn’s Superman opened this weekend. If Rotten Tomatoes has given us a hint, people have liked it much more than the specialized critics. But how is it that this praise for the new version of the Last Son of Krypton is reflected in the box office not only in the United States, but in the world... and of course, how it is reflected against the other versions of the character that have been in the movies.

Superman flies into theaters breaking records

According to Deadline, Superman had a made $123 million in the U.S. over its opening weekend, and a further $95 million internationally in 78 countries for a total worldwide box office of $217 million. This makes the new DC Studios film the third-best opening of 2025, just behind A Minecraft Movie and Jurassic World Rebirth.

With this, Superman becomes the superhero film with the best opening weekend, surpassing Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, which generated a total of $116 million in 2013 in its first weekend. However, it falls short of Snyder’s other Superman film. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which, since it could also be considered a Batman movie, totaled $166,007,347. On the other hand, Superman becomes the second-best opening ever directed by Gunn, only after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which did $146.5 million in 2017.
