Take-Two Interactive stock rises after Rockstar data leak backfires on hackers
Leaked figures reveal the scale of GTA Online’s daily revenue, reassuring investors.

Over the weekend, a group of hackers known as ShinyHunters obtained information and data from Rockstar Games’ online services. Despite demanding a ransom for the data and releasing it prematurely, the hackers’ attempt to harm the studio completely backfired. Shares of the parent company, Take-Two, rose to their highest level so far this year.
Far from damaging Rockstar Games’ reputation, the information only served to highlight just how massive the company is. According to the leaked information, the studio generates an average of $1.3 million per day only from GTA Online, and nearly $500 million per year. These profits are primarily due to the sale of in-game Shark Cards, which grant players between $250,000 and $10,000,000 in-game currency for amounts ranging from $5 to $99.

How much did Take-Two’s stock rise?
In their original post, the hacker group had threatened Rockstar to pay up, warning that otherwise the studio would face “several annoying (digital) problems,” and urging the company not to “be the next headline”—a somewhat confusing threat, considering that Rockstar, for better or worse, is always in the headlines. And beyond causing them trouble, it was actually a favor—how did the leak affect the company? As for the rise in Take-Two’s stock, the company’s stock was valued at $195.12 last Friday, reaching $214.15 at the time of writing.
