Tekken could have got Colonel Sanders, the KFC mascot, as a playable character, but the owners refused
Tekken is no stranger to weird characters and unexpected collaborations, but there’s one fighter who never got the chance to join the fight: KFC’s Colonel Sanders
File this one under cancelations we didn’t know about but really needed: Katsuhiro Harada, the head of the Tekken franchise at Bandai Namco, revealed that he tried to get Colonel Sanders into one of the games as a playable character. But the sad truth is that he couldn’t get permission from KFC.
“A long time ago, I wanted to have Colonel Sanders from Kentucky Fried Chicken fight,” explained Harada in an interview with The Gamer. “So, I asked to use Colonel Sanders and go to the head office in Japan.” Unfortunately, the developer’s attempt was met with a “bad look” from KFC, and the proposal was rejected.
While Harada didn’t specify when the proposal happened, in previous years Colonel Sanders has appeared in some of his own games, including the extremely bizarre dating sim visual novel “I Love You, Colonel Sanders! A Finger Lickin’ Good Dating Simulator”, which was.. Uhh… interesting to say the least.
Tekken 8 continues to delight fans with new content
Bandai Namco Studios released the first trailer for Heihachi Mishima in Tekken 8 at this year’s Evo, and it contains a rather shocking revelation. Not only did he not die at the end of Tekken 7, but he’s alive, kicking, and ready to continue doing what he does best: destroying his opponents with his perfected Mishima-style karate.
In fact, we’ve already had the chance to try Heihachi by ourselves, and came out of the experience very excited for the future of the title. You can read our full impressions here.
