‘The Apothecary Diaries’ movie reveals first trailer, title and story details
The film introduces a brand-new mystery written by series author Natsu Hyūga and expands Maomao’s world beyond the court.
Following the official announcement last October that ‘The Apothecary Diaries’ would be made into a movie, the official website revealed its first trailer this afternoon, along with the first details about Maomao’s upcoming adventure. In addition, the official release date has been set for December 11, 2026.
The film will be titled ‘Kusuriya no Hitorigoto: Bōhi no Hihō’, which translates to ‘The Apothecary Diaries: The Deceased Empress’ Treasure’ in English. The story, which is a completely new tale by Natsu Hyūga, author of the novels, will follow Maomao and Jinshi as they travel to the hometown of a concubine who died five years ago in the imperial harem, to return her remains to her homeland. There, they encounter pirates, hidden treasures, the secret of the Empress’s remains, and a mysterious boy who holds the key to the story.
The Future of ‘The Apothecary Diaries’
The movie isn’t the only thing in store for ‘The Apothecary Diaries’. It had already been announced that the anime would get a Season 3, which will be divided into two cours. The first part will premiere in October 2026, while the second part will air through April 2027.
For now, we’ll have to wait and see what’s in store this weekend at Anime Expo 2026 from July 2 to July 4, as ‘The Apothecary Diaries’ Season 3 is one of the anime series set to get a first look during Crunchyroll’s panels at the event.
