The BAFTAs 2023 go wild! Vampire Survivors wins GOTY and God of War Ragnarok beats Elden Ring
The British Academy’s awards for the best video games of 2023 have been full of surprises, with Vampire Survivors’ GOTY and a fight between Kratos and From Software.
The BAFTA Awards, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts’ most prestigious awards, have once again recognized the “outstanding achievements in creativity” of selected video games in 2022, as they have done since 2004. The gala, held at Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, culminated the video game awards season and did so with plenty of surprises.
The GOTY 2023, for example, was won against all odds by Vampire Survivors, which however lost the award for Best British game, It bowed down to the Rollerdrome. And Elden Ring, the game with the most awards in history, had to settle for two of the strangest: Multiplayer Game (?!?) and Original Property. Kratos was the big winner of the evening with six statuettes for God of War Ragnarok. Still, curiously it was not considered the title with the best graphics, a category in which Horizon Forbidden West was crowned.
