The Batman 2: Barry Keoghan is being very coy about whether or not he’s back as The Joker for the sequel

Barry Keoghan knows more than what he’s willing to share about his return as The Joker in the upcoming sequel to Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’.

The Batman 2: Barry Keoghan is being very coy about whether or not he’s back as The Joker for the sequel

There are still around two years before the premiere of ‘The Batman II’ since its filming begins in 2025, but many fans of the bat are asking the same question after the chilling ending of the first film: will the Joker have a greater role? Barry Keoghan plays the quintessential villain in the first movie, and although he has already hinted that he would be delighted to put himself in the shoes of the psychopathic clown, he is still not allowed to say anything... or if there is anything to say.

In an interview with Variety, Keoghan is asked about this matter, and although the actor does not say much with words, he does do so with a laugh that expresses way more than what he’s allowed to say. ‘You know I can’t say much”, says Keoghan while covering his mouth. “We’ll see where that goes and, again, incredible experience and… you know… yeah… that’s all I can say,” is all he manages to say between hesitation and laughter, fueling hopes of his return.

Keoghan makes an appearance for only a few minutes at the end of ‘The Batman’, in which he makes himself known as a “nameless Arkham prisoner”, and in a scene in which he converses with Riddler (Paul Dano). However, despite appearing out of focus, his makeup makes it evident that he is the Joker. Matt Reeves, director of the film, has not made any statement about Keoghan’s greater role in the sequel, something that seems to remain a secret for some time yet.

A universe apart from the main DC in charge of James Gunn

It must be remembered that ‘The Batman’ and its sequel will not be part of the official DC Universe commanded by James Gunn, although the producer and director has assured on several occasions that everything related to DC Comics has to be under his supervision, which also includes ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’. Gunn gave the approval to continue with ‘The Batman II’ with Robert Pattinson in the leading role, given the critical and public success of the first.
