The best April Fools 2024 jokes of the video game industry

Don’t get fooled: today everyone joins in on the pranks and jokes, including some of the biggest players in the video game industry. Here are some of the best so far.

Another year has gone by, and April Fools’ Day is once again here to prank people and confuse a good deal of gamers who may have fallen victim of jokes and misdirections. And of course, the video game industry has adopted the celebration almost completely, with many of the biggest companies joining in on the fun!

This year we’ve already seen a lot of jokes, some actually very elaborate, some which have made us wish the things they are showing were actually real or in development. But who knows, it wouldn’t be the first time a developer sees the reaction of its fans to something they did as a joke and choose to pursue it for real. Below you’ll find some of the best pranks of the day.

Pokémon Sleep getting an worldwide tournament

It might not be the most exciting proposition to watch, but we know of some people that would love to compete in this fictitious World Championship that is all about who comes out on top in an 8 hour and 30 minute face-off between 30 global nappers.

Bandai Namco shows of a literal Elden Ring expansion

It’s not the kind of expansion you might want, but you can’t deny that it’s absolutely huge. Some might say it’s actually the biggest expansion the title has had ever.

Guilty Gear Strive gets a new character! Maybe…

It’s about time for Malcolm Myers to join the fight! Who is this mysterious hooded AND masked character? How is he important to the epic lore of Guilty Gear? Is he actually able to stand up to the rest of the cast of characters?! Oh, he’s already knocked out.

On the other hand, we’d all like to know what “The Smell of the Game” actually smells like:

Fanblue Grantasy Rises: Versing

That’s right! Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is getting a name change, and a new art style to boot! It’s supposed to be more accessible for players but… dunno, it looks very professional to us.

Cyberpunk 2077 gets a new limited time “Floppy Edition”

Still rocking a Floppy Disk reader? You’re in luck! CD Projekt RED have just announced an upcoming new version of the game that comes in 3.5″” diskettes. You can wishlist and start preparing for a truck to bring you the game in only 97,619 floppy disks!

The Virtual Boy Pro brings VR to the Nintendo Switch!

Even IGN joined in on the fun by producing a very elaborate trailer for the “Virtual Boy Pro”: an accessory for Nintendo’s current console that brings AR in an extremely questionable manner.

Capcom is expanding to the open skies

Yeah, video games are great, but Capcom has just found where the real money is: aviation. The Japanese Company announced they’ll “take advantage of our accumulated know-how” to provide comfortable air travel with “Capcom Helicopters”.

The Ultimate Gaming Chair

Never get up from your chair again. Ever. Let the Razer Cthulhu attend to your every need with its 8 completely independent robotic arms. There’s many things they can do… some more questionable than others…

Naraka is ready to throw hands, literally

The martial arts battle royale is all about melee combat, but it’s so far left out the most basic weapon of them all: your bare hands. And the trailer above is here to remind you of everything you can do with them, from slapping people, to shooting lasers, to buffing people through congratulatory claps, and of course, picking up an ally to beat up other allies with them. Just don’t get parried.

Palworld is preparing a dating sim?

Yeah, we’ll just let the trailer speak for itself…

Cursed Among Us is here

The astronauts are still here, they just look a little… weirder than usual. Sort of elongated.

Dave the Diver will finally let you meet one of its stars in VR

Think your weaponsmith was a little creepy? Well now you can be creepy as well! The devs behind Dave the Diver announced VR DokiDoki Leahs, in which you’ll get to meet Duff’s favorite virtual waifu.

For Honor mixes things up

The eternal battle in Ubisoft’s For Honor typically has fun ways to celebrate April Fool’s Day, but this time something seems to have gone wrong: everyone’s weapons have been switched around!

Dead by Daylight has a new friend for you to run away from

We’ve heard of people wanting someone to step on them, but this isn’t what we expected at all.
