The best games to play with your family during Christmas and New Years Eve

Let’s enjoy family gatherings for the holidays by playing some amazing games together.

It’s Christmas time! a time marked by traditions in which we spend the month finding gifts, gathering with family and friends and blurring the lines between lunch, dinner, and supper. We go to see nativity scenes in our city or town and we meet with our loved ones on such important days as Christmas Eve (December 24) and New Year’s Eve (December 31). There is also no shortage of hangovers on December 25th and New Year’s Eve on January 1st.

But beyond the holidays, there are things that never change, such as enjoying video games. Taking advantage of the fact that several days are approaching in which we usually are accompanied by family and other loved ones, how about we recommend the best games to play during the Holidays? We only have two requirements: that they have a local multiplayer mode and that they are very fun.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder

  • Why play it: Mario is synonymous with fun and we haven’t seen him in a long time a new adventure from Nintendo’s star series. Furthermore, this time we have the possibility of enjoying the game in its entirety in multiplayer mode and on the same console.
  • Platforms: Nintendo Switch.

Sackboy: A big adventure

  • Why play it: If Nintendo is clear about its commitment to cooperative platform adventures, Sony did not want to miss the Christmas party. Sackboy was born on Little Big Planet, but now he boasts of having his own adventure. A title with which laughter is guaranteed.
  • Platforms: PS5, PS4 and PC.

It Takes Two

  • Why play it: Josef Fares’ title is a safe bet, since it proposes an exciting adventure full of sense of humor, action and a sense of humor that hides a most emotional story. It is perfect to play with another person because it is not even possible to play alone.
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One.

Mario Party 3

  • Why play it: The Nintendo saga combines the best of board games and the most fun of video games. A board experience in which players must compete to be the best in an endless number of mini-games set in the Mushroom Kingdom. We have opted for the N64 game, taking advantage of the fact that it is available in the Nintendo Switch catalog.
  • Platforms: Nintendo Switch (Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack)

EA Sports FC 24

  • Why play it: We don’t know if you are one of those who say that at dinner we don’t talk about football, but after dessert we do, right? The Electronic Arts game is the successor to FIFA, and it’s perfect for celebrating your own Boxing Day at home. Referee, time!
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One.

The entire Halo saga

  • Why play it: they are legends of the FPS genre and they have been remastered into an incredible collection. Halo: The Master Chief Collection is a must-have these days and thanks to the cooperative mode you can enjoy the fantastic campaigns of Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach, among others. So why not jump in for a quick 2-day-long marathon to play the entire franchise in co-op from beginning to end?
  • Platforms: PC, Xbox SeriesX|S and Xbox One

Overcooked

  • Why play it: If every kitchen tends to get messy during Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve preparations, in Overcooked’s kitchen things get worse and we come out on fire, literally. The game from Ghost Town Games Ltd. has become a multiplayer classic and guarantees equal parts fun and laughter.
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

  • Why play it: because it’s Mario Kart and those are big words. It was launched for Wii U, extended to Nintendo Switch and today it remains the latest installment to date. It has grown by leaps and bounds and currently has a huge number of characters and circuits. It is the king of its genre, even though he has fearsome rivals...
  • Platforms: Nintendo Switch.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled

  • Why play it: because we know that karting is a beloved genre that cannot be missing from any family gathering, and since we have included Mario Kart, we have thought about those who have or prefer other platforms. That, and that Crash Team Racing is a living myth that a few years ago came back in full shape.
  • Platforms: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One.

Resident Evil 5

  • Why play it: If you thought we were going to forget about horror, you were wrong. And if there’s something good about the often maligned Resident Evil 5, it’s none other than its intense and fun cooperative mode for two players. Chris and Sheva are forced to cooperate to survive, so you know what’s coming. In addition, there are remastered versions with better graphics than the original title.
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One.
