As the premiere of ‘The Odyssey’Christopher Nolan’s new blockbuster based on the Homeric epic—draws near, new details about the film are beginning to emerge. Although the project remains shrouded in the utmost secrecy, a leak appears to have solved one of the biggest mysteries surrounding the cast: which character Elliot Page will play. And, against all odds, it won’t be Achilles, as many fans had thought.

Elliot Page’s true role in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’

As revealed by Fiction Horizon, the cast list for the Hungarian-dubbed version of the film appears to have confirmed Elliot Page’s true role in ‘The Odyssey’. According to this document, which lists both the cast members and the characters they portray—as well as their respective Hungarian voice actors—Page will play Sinon, thus dispelling the theories that for months had him cast as Achilles or even Elpenor.

It is worth noting that Sinon does not appear in Homer’s ‘The Odyssey’, but he did play a key role in the Trojan War. His story was primarily told in Virgil’s ‘Aeneid,’ where he was a Greek soldier—and Odysseus’s cousin in some reinterpretations of the tale—who pretended to have been abandoned by his army to deceive the Trojans and convince them to bring the famous Trojan Horse into the city, leading to its eventual fall. In various trailers for the film, we’ve seen Page with his face covered in mud, but virtually no contextual details that might reveal his true role in the story.

If this leak turns out to be true, it also offers a very interesting clue about Christopher Nolan’s approach. The implication is clear: according to these indications, his adaptation would not be limited solely to Homer’s poem, but would also include characters and events from other classic works of the Trojan cycle. That said, Universal Pictures has not yet officially confirmed the full cast, so this information should be treated with caution.
