'The Boys' pokes fun at Donald Trump by having Homelander serve burgers

The popular Prime Video series puts its villain in the role of Trump and makes him serve burgers as the Republican candidate and former president of the United States.

With the 2024 U.S. presidential election just weeks away, candidates such as Donald Trump are promoting themselves in such bizarre ways as frying fries at a burger joint and serving them to customers. This campaign stunt hasn’t gone unnoticed, and Prime Video’s ‘The Boys series has taken a dig at the issue in a post on X. In the post, the fictional multinational company Vought conducts a promotional stunt by putting the evil Homelander, played by Antony Starr, in the same position.

Prime Video’s ‘The Boys’ pokes fun at Trump’s campaign rally by serving fries and burgers

On October 23, 2024, the X account @VoughtIntl, which “represents” Vought International, a fictional company in “The Boys” universe, posted an image accompanied by text revealing that Homelander had worked at a burger joint for a day.

“Growing up, Homelander dreamed of working at his local Vought A Burger. Recently, his wish came true, as Vought shut down a restaurant and staged pre-selected customers, so Homelander could ‘serve’ ‘people’ ‘food.’ Thanks, Homelander, for showing everyone how you’re a true man of the people!,” the tweet reads.

It is, in effect, a wink and a laugh at Trump’s campaign rally last October 20, where the Republican Party candidate was in the kitchen of a fast-food restaurant serving several customers. The mockery refers to how a prepared act is meant to pass as something spontaneous, which serves to humanize Trump in real life and Homelander in fiction.

This isn’t the first time the Prime Video series has done something like this; previous segments have been used to poke fun at other current events, like the “Make America Great Again” slogan of Trumpism, or how convoluted interconnected cinematic universes like Marvel’s and DC’s are. It’s a clever and insightful way to comment on current events while keeping the show relevant as it rests between seasons.
