‘The Boys’ Season 4 is premiering on Thursday, June 13, 2024. After a long wait, Prime Video’s extremely popular adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name is returning with promises of loads of gore, violence, mysteries, and musical episodes. But according to the show’s director, Eric Kripke, it will also mark the beginning of the end.

The Boys Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season!” revealed Kripke on his Twitter/X account. “Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in 2 DAYS, cause the end has begun!”

The Boys began in 2019, instantly becoming a success for Prime Video through its extremely dark and irreverent tone. It was one of the first “evil superhero” shows to release (ahead of Invincible, also on Prime Video), and as such set the standard for many of the satyrical and dark productions that have come ever since. The original comic written by Garth Ennis has had an ending for a while, but as the show didn’t follow on its footsteps closely, it was always a mystery just when the showrunners would choose to end the series, or if they would try to extend it for as many seasons as possible.

Curiously, this is not the only extremely popular series that announces its definitive end before the release of a new season: Netflix’s Arcane, the amazing adaptation of League of Legends lore in collaboration with Riot Games, also announced that it’s upcoming second season would also be it’s last.
