Figures

The ‘Chainsaw Man’ figures that explain why we’re desperate for season 2 of the anime

Banpresto releases their new Denji and Power figures, reminding us why Chainsaw Man Season 2 is one of our most anticipated anime of 2024 (spoiler: its characters).

Update:
Chainsaw Man

We miss Chainsaw Man. This December will mark one year since the last episode of the anime premiered, and the worst part is that we still have no news about its season 2. We didn’t remember how much its absence hurt us until we saw the new Banpresto figures based on Tatsuki Fujimoto’s manga. Or more than the work, his characters. Because the ones we really miss are Denji, Power and company. Strangely enough, being demons and other aberrations of nature, they are all more human than most contemporary Shonen protagonists. But fortunately, thanks to these characters, they will now be able to accompany us in our daily lives.

Sometimes it’s nice when a story doesn’t make us feel sorry for its characters. Speaking of Akatsuki, we were grateful that even in his flashbacks he was a terrorist blinded by his ideals. Because real life is like that. In it, there is not always an explanation for all the darkness in the world, nor for all the macabre behavior that takes place in it. Or maybe there are, but they are often not valid justifications. We don’t need a character to have been bullied to like them. Sometimes it’s enough that they are true to their values and openly express their personality. There is nothing more attractive than someone who is confident.

Denji and Power are perfect examples of what we are talking about. Some might say (rightly) that their past is a real drama, but that’s not why we have so much fun with them. It’s simply because they may want to touch a tit or fill their belly, but they will never be ashamed of it. They don’t want to save the world or solve mankind’s big problems. Nor do they have a great history of love and death behind them. They are capricious, dirty, often of the most childish selfishness and competitiveness. But they are real. They are a breath of fresh air among so many good guys with unbreakable wills. Sin and passion are the most human things there are.

For characters like Denji and Power, it’s too bad about Chainsaw Man Season 2. Outside of Japan, it was applauded and recognized by everyone. So much for the impressive opening full of movie references. But it is true that within its borders, the recurring use of CGI, the adult and provocative tone, or the fact that it had only 12 episodes instead of the originally announced 24 did not work in its favor. On top of all this, we can add that the series is being produced by MAPPA, the animation studio responsible for ‘Shingeki no Kyojin’ and is currently up to its ears in projects such as ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ or ‘Vinland Saga’. We want to believe it, but for the reasons mentioned above, it is not known if the anime will return, and the same goes for figures like Banpresto’s.

And for those who don’t know Chainsaw Man, what can we say? With its new chapters, it has climbed to the top of Manga Plus’ most-read manga chart, competing with industry giants such as ‘One Piece’ and ‘Dragon Ball Super’. The tragic story of Denji and his demonic dog, Pochita, has captivated millions around the world, largely thanks to its lack of pretension... and scruples. Unbridled action in vein with crazy character design, best exemplified by the protagonist: a young man with chainsaws for arms and head.

But back to the figures, they are two PVC works with a height of 5.8 inches and a display base included, costing around $40 and included in the Vibration Stars collection. The work is especially striking given the amount of detail of the same, see the teeth of Denji’s chainsaw or the narrowness and yet solidity of Power’s blood hammer. Weighing in at just over 300 grams, they have enough packaging to make another excellent value gift for any good otaku.
