The creator of Kingdom Come: Deliverance joins the AI debate with force following criticism of Larian Studios
A technology that is here to stay in the video game industry.

Artificial intelligence has been on everyone’s lips lately, and the video game industry is no exception. In recent days, Larian Studios, creators of Baldur’s Gate 3, have been in the eye of the storm following statements by their director, Swen Vincke, revealing that they were using AI in the development of the new Divinity. He specified that the use of this technology is more “to explore ideas” and that no content generated by it would be included in the final game.
Despite everything, the controversy was already underway, and another great European creative has given his opinion on the matter. Daniel Vávra, founder of Warhorse Studios, creators of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, did not hesitate to come out in defense of Larian: “This AI hysteria is the same as when people were smashing steam engines in the 19th century. Larian said they were doing something that absolutely everyone else is doing and got an insanely crazy shitstorm.”

A technology that could prove extremely useful
In a lengthy post on X (Twitter), Vávra went on to emphasize that “I’m no fan of AI generated art, but anyway, it’s time to face reality. AI is here to stay with us. As frightening as it may be, that’s the way it is. Personally, it scares me the most in the music because you can’t even recognise AI there anymore”

The Czech creative highlighted one area where AI can be extremely useful: namely greatly reducing development time. He points out that it has “taken me seven years on average to make one game,” while always being clear that “that game will still have an art director, writers, programmers, graphic designers, but they won’t have to do the tiresome and boring tasks, they’ll have to focus on the essentials.”
