The creator of ‘My Hero Academia’ announces his new manga—a horror story no one saw coming

‘My Hero Academia’ is one of the biggest manga and anime hits of recent years. Kohei Horikoshi’s work has already made history after coming to a definitive conclusion in both mediums, but the 39-year-old author still has much to contribute to the industry. Proof of this is his upcoming release, ‘Don’t Laugh, Shijima-san,’ a horror manga set to be published on August 10 in Shonen Jump.

This is a one-shot manga—a self-contained story consisting of a single chapter in which the plot begins, unfolds, and concludes. We won’t have to wait long to find out what this horror story has to offer from an author who is moving away from shōnen to prove that he can also hold his own in other genres. Although the details of the work remain a complete mystery, the publisher Shueisha has confirmed that it will be published in full color and will total 61 pages.

This all-new story reflects the author of ‘My Hero Academia’’s desire to explore the darker, more sinister side of the manga industry. Throughout his most famous work, he has included chilling moments that give us reason to be optimistic about what Horikoshi might offer in this one-shot.

Now we just have to wait and see if he’ll dare to launch a new series in the future. In the meantime, we’ll have the chance to enjoy his talent once again with a new, self-contained story.
