The creator of ‘Naruto’ admits the influence of one of Japan’s most famous giant monsters on the manga
Masashi Kishimoto spoke up about how Kaijus were key during the creation of Naruto and its supernatural ninja lore.
‘Naruto’, the incredibly popular manga created by Masashi Kishimoto, is the result of the vision of a talented artist who has been able to capture his own shinobi universe in one of the most influential works of recent times, in addition to giving us the most dynamic and colorful vignettesin the industry, with extraordinary use of impossible perspective and planes. But ‘Naruto’ also draws from other key works in popular culture, from ‘Dragon Ball’ to ‘Hunter x Hunter’, passing through ‘The Matrix’ and the kung fu movies from the 70s. However, Kishimoto admitted that another source of inspiration that was decisive in his work was Godzilla.
Godzilla and the Kaijus and their influence on ‘Naruto’
Through a recent interview of the mangaka with french media site La Nouvelle République, Kishimoto has admitted that the figure of Godzilla was decisive in shaping the Tailed Beasts of the ‘Naruto’ universe, the monstrous demons that remain in torpor inside some of its protagonists, known as Jinchurikis, as is the case of Naruto and his Kyubi, also known as Kurama or the Nine-Tailed Beast.
“I’ve been passionate about Godzilla since I was in elementary school.. I always dreamed of drawing monsters, so I ended up including some in my story. I like Godzilla, I like Mothra, I like Ghidorah and I also like Rodan. They inspired me to make the Tailed Beasts ‘Naruto’, ha asegurado Kishimoto.
In this way, Kishimoto has revealed that the famous Kaijus, the classic Japanese movie monsters, were decisive in giving shape to the myth of the Nine-Tailed Beasts from ‘Naruto’, enormous mythological beings that live inside some of its protagonists and are capable of unleash colossal power of destruction.
