The creators of Ghost of Yotei celebrated the delay of GTA 6: “We’re all still hungover”
Speculation continues that the current release date for GTA 6 may not be final and could be delayed again.
Rockstar has kept the entire industry on tenterhooks. No one wanted to release their video game this fall for fear of coinciding with GTA 6, a titan of this caliber that would dominate headlines and, without a doubt, sales around the world. That even includes a studio like Sucker Punch, under the PlayStation Studios label, which will release the sequel to the hit Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yotei, this coming October.
Therefore, when the delay of GTA 6 until May 2026 was announced, many breathed a sigh of relief, especially at Sucker Punch. This was confessed by Nate Fox, creative director of Ghost of Yotei.
Fox was asked during a rapid-fire interview at MinnMax: “When GTA 6 was delayed did the entire studio pop some champagne?”. “We’re all still hungover. Multi-month hangover. That was a great day,” Fox replied.
Rockstar decided to delay GTA 6 in order“to deliver at the level of quality [players] expect and deserve,” something that will benefit quite a few video games, such as Ghost of Yotei itself, which launches on October 2 on PS5.
Could GTA 6 be delayed again?
In principle, GTA 6 will arrive on May 26, 2026, but even so, there are sources that do not rule out the possibility of it being delayed again. This is the case of journalist and insider Tom Henderson, who does not expect the game to be ready by that date. “All the rumblings and so on just doesn’t seem to suggest it,” Henderson said.
It wouldn’t be the first time that a Rockstar game has been delayed after its final release date was announced; quite the contrary, in fact: it’s rare that this hasn’t happened.
