Netflix

The fantasy saga considered to be the illegitimate child between Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter returns

A literary gem is coming back with a high-profile adaptation.

Las Crónicas de Narnia El León, la Bruja y el Armario (2005)

‘The Lord of the Rings’ and ‘Harry Potter’ are two of the most defining fantasy franchises in literature and cinema. Their success sparked a wave of adaptations, and one of the most beloved is ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’, written by C.S. Lewis, a close friend of J.R.R. Tolkien and a major literary figure of the 20th century.

Between 2005 and 2010, three films based on ‘Narnia’ were released. Now, Netflix is reviving the franchise with a new adaptation, set to premiere on November 26, 2026. The film will be directed by Greta Gerwig, one of today’s most acclaimed filmmakers, known for her Oscar-nominated work on ‘Barbie’, ‘Little Women’, and ‘Lady Bird’.

Netflix’s ambitious plan for ‘Narnia’

Netflix’s vision for ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ is expansive, with plans to release at least two films directed by Gerwig. The first adaptation will be ‘The Magician’s Nephew’, a prequel to ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’, exploring the origins of Narnia.

The project arrives at a time when fantasy is resurging, coinciding with HBO’s upcoming ‘Harry Potter’ series and other major adaptations.

What to expect from the new ‘Narnia’ films

  • Emma Mackey (Sex Education, ‘Barbie’) has been cast as Jadis, the White Witch.
  • Meryl Streep is reportedly in talks to play Aslan.
  • The first film will have a two-week IMAX theatrical release before streaming on Netflix.

With Gerwig’s storytelling expertise, this adaptation promises to bring Narnia’s magic to life in a way that honors the original books while offering a fresh cinematic experience.
