The final phase of GTA 6 prompts Rockstar Games employees to return to offices
Among the reasons for the end of the hybrid format are security measures related to Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated title.
Starting in April, Rockstar Games employees will have to return to work five days a week as GTA 6 enters its final year of development.
According to a report by Bloomberg, employees were informed of the end of their hybrid work on Wednesday via an email sent by Jean Kolbe, head of publishing at Rockstar Games. In addition to entering this stage of development for the studio’s highly anticipated title, the email cited increased productivity and security measures as reasons for the move.
“Making these changes now puts us in the best position to deliver the next Grand Theft Auto at the level of quality and polish we know it requires, along with a publishing roadmap that matches the scale and ambition of the game,” wrote Kolbe in the mail.
Kolbe also said the company has seen “tangible benefits” from having employees work in person. According to Bloomberg, the staff is not happy with the decision.
Grand Theft Auto 6 and its leaks
Rockstar Games does not seem to be very happy with the various security problems that their highly anticipated game has had in the last few years. The studio has always been very careful with the information of their games and until a few years ago, the idea of a leak from their side was unthinkable.
That changed in September 2022, when a series of 90 videos were leaked, leading to the arrest and subsequent conviction of the hacker. Just a few months ago, in December 2023, the highly anticipated first trailer was leaked ahead of time, causing Rockstar to release it a few hours early (and still break records on YouTube).
For now, all we can do is wait for a new trailer, a release date, or whatever else Rockstar feels is ready before the game launches in 2025 for the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
