Hideo Kojima, creator of the legendary Metal Gear Solid saga, and the more recent Death Stranding, has made it clear on numerous occasions that he’s a passionate fan of ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’. Therefore, it was more than predictable that he would react with enthusiasm to the first trailer for ‘Furiosa’, a prequel to the original in which Anya Taylor-Joy will take over from Charlize Theron in the role of a young Furiosa. Its first trailer has caused some division between fans of the George Miller series, but Kojima’s hype has risen to infinity.
“It’s finally here!!!!! Gave me an energy! My GOD, thank you”, exclaimed emphatically Kojima on his Twitter/X account. Later in the day, he quoted his own tweet to make it clear that he has basically learned it by heart. “I’ve watched 10 times already,” he said. As if that were not enough, he would later retweet various publications related to the film.
When does ‘Furiosa’ release?
This prequel will hit theaters on May 24, 2024, no less than 9 years after ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’. Obviously, the cast will have several important changes beyond that of Anya Taylor-Joy replacing Charlize Theron in the title role. Chris Hemsworth will be a big part of the movie as Warlord Dementus, who takes Furiosa from the Green Place of Many Mothers and pulls her into a fight against a young Immortan Joe. The villain’s original interpreter, Hugh Keays-Byrne, sadly passed away on December 2020, so his role has been given to another actor.
George Miller will once again get behind the cameras as the eternal director of the Mad Max series, and in what will be no less than his fifth installment, after its debut in the 80s by Mel Gibson.
“As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus,” says the movie’s official synopsis. “Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.
