The game that almost no one talks about, but which surpasses Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox combined in monthly active users
Despite making little noise, Roblox has more monthly active users than Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox combined. How is this possible?

On social media, almost all video game enthusiasts tend to talk about the latest releases on the market, such as Hollow Knight: Silksong, or highly anticipated titles like Grand Theft Auto VI. However, there is one game that almost no one talks about, yet it has accumulated astronomical monthly active user numbers, surpassing those of Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox... combined! This is the Roblox phenomenon. How is it possible for it to be so successful despite the media silence surrounding it?
Roblox: the silent giant with more monthly active users than Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox combined
Since its debut in 2006 on PC and its subsequent arrival on consoles and mobile devices, Roblox has become an almost unprecedented phenomenon in the video game industry. Not only because of the enormous number of players it attracts each month, but also because it has done so without making much noise in the sector. The explanation is simple: most of its users are children and teenagers, which favors expansion outside of social networks such as X or TikTok, functioning more through word of mouth and closed communities, such as Discord servers.
Even most chronically online people have no idea how staggeringly, unfathomably big Roblox is right now.

The figures speak for themselves. In 2024, Roblox had an average of around 350 million monthly active users, according to recent estimates. To put that into perspective, the combined total of three of the largest gaming platforms does not reach that volume: Steam has around 200 million, PlayStation (including PC users) has just over 100 million, and Xbox (consoles only) has less than 50 million. Together, they barely manage to match what Roblox achieves on its own.
To put these figures into context, Roblox recently broke its record for concurrent players, bringing together 23,400,000 players at once thanks to the Steal A Brainrot experience. In contrast, Fortnite’s record, set in November 2024, was 14,343,880 concurrent players, and that was using stars of the caliber of Snoop Dogg and Eminem for an in-game concert as a hook. In other words, although Fortnite’s cultural impact is undeniable, Roblox curiously has an even larger fan base despite being less visible in the mainstream.

Part of the secret to its success lies in its very nature: Roblox is not a typical video game, but rather a tool for creating gaming experiences and a social space where millions of players design, share, and participate in interactive experiences, ranging from social simulators to survival games, and even “clones” of other popular games such as Call of Duty or Counter-Strike.

In other words, Roblox is, for all intents and purposes, a metaverse. However, this freedom of action and lack of adequate filters has also led to numerous controversies: the platform has been singled out on several occasions for cases of grooming of minors and for its lack of control over certain content, which has sparked a debate about the safety of its youngest users.
