Sony Pictures has just released the first official trailer of the Gran Turismo movie, which instead of adapting the game tells the true story of a gamer turning into a real racer.

After months of waiting since the announcement of the project and its subsequent filming, finally we have the first official full trailer for Gran Turismo, the new film based on the famous console driving and car simulation franchise from PlayStation. Sony Pictures shared the trailer through their official channels, offering fans a first look of a long-awaited film by lovers of gasoline and competitions on 4 wheels, a story based on a real case that can be enjoyed in theaters on August 11, 2023.

Gran Turismo: from video games to cinema

Following the endless number of video game adaptations to the big screen, Sony Pictures, PlayStation Productions and Polyphony Digital have put on the helmet and the competition suit to carry the GT concept seen on PlayStation consoles to theaters around the world. All this with the aim of narrating a true story based on competitions of Nissan Academy, in which Gran Turismo was used to bring promising young people who played the video game motorsport to real circuits with competition cars capable of exceeding 300 km/h.

“Based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, the film is the ultimate wish fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional racecar driver. “, we can read on the official synopsis, thus following the case of many drivers who achieved their pass to real competitions by winning the Nissan Academy of Gran Turismo, as is the case of the Spaniard, Lucas Ordonez.

Directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium, Chappie), the cast of Gran Turismo is composed of David Harbour (Stranger Things), Orlando Bloom (The Lord of the Rings), Djimon Hounsou (Shazam!), Geri Halliwell-Horner, Josha Stradowski, Alexis Tuttle and Bianca Bardoe. Gran Turismo will be released in theaters on August 11, 2023.
