The Gran Turismo movie releases its first trailer fulfilling many fans' dreams

Sony Pictures has released the first teaser (above) about the Gran Turismo movie by Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium, Chappie). "We are so excited to tell you all about our movie, Gran Turismo," explains Archie Madekwe, the movie's protagonist.

"It’s a movie based on the true life story with hot pounding action, drama is a love story and badass race-car action that you’re going to feel like you’re in the middle of. Body-vibrating sound… The audience is going to feel every jolt, every thrill of this racing at 200 miles per hour,” explain the two big stars involved, David Harbour and Orlando Bloom, along with Archie Madekwe.

As its actors anticipate, the film is based "on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, the film is the ultimate wish fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional racecar driver." In real life, Jann Mardenborough was the third (and youngest) GT Academy winner, going on to compete in races as important as the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Englishman was selected from a list of more than 20 winners who have participated in this program that has given Gran Turismo players the opportunity to make the leap to being drivers in real life.

The Gran Turismo movie is another sign that Sony has decided to bet big on the audiovisual world, for which it has also already confirmed future adaptations of God of War and Horizon. After the success of the Uncharted movie, the company has made up its mind and has a number of projects in the pipeline, such as the imminent The Last of Us series.

The release date for the Gran Turismo movie is August 11, 2023, and that's when we'll see if Blomkamp is up to the task with one of the most iconic franchises in PlayStation history. Without going too far, its latest installment, Gran Turismo 7, came out in March last year.
