A24 has released the first trailer for “The Iron Claw,” a biopic of the Von Erich wrestling family starring Zac Efron. This new drama promises to keep us glued to our couches with the comings and goings of the Von Erich clan, their journey into pro wrestling, and the gruesome events that would come to be known as “The Curse of the Von Erichs.”
The Iron Claw’ is the Von Erich wrestling clan biopic that promises to make our hair stand on end.
In this first trailer for ‘The Iron Claw’ we see Zac Efron as Kevin Von Erich, a member of a family sadly remembered for their supposed curse. And is that the Adkisson (the “Von Erich” is the stage name they used in the ring) were hit hard by tragedy. When Jack Adkisson, the patriarch of the family, better known by his stage name Fritz Von Erich, passed away in 1997, five of his sons had died before him under various circumstances.
The official synopsis reads: “The true story of the inseparable Von Erich brothers, who made history in the intensely competitive world of professional wrestling in the early 1980s. Through tragedy and triumph, under the shadow of their domineering father and coach, the brothers seek larger-than-life immortality on the biggest stage in sports.”
Zac Efron plays Kevin Von Erich, the only one of the Von Erich sons who did not die and is still alive today. In the trailer, we can see how this movie deals with themes like hard work or the complexity of relationships between family members and how the father pushes the children to the limit in order to succeed.
The film is produced by A24, a company that has made a name for itself with feature films such as ‘Hereditary’, ‘Midsommar’ and ‘Beau is Afraid’. Zac Efron is joined by Jeremy Allen White, Harris Dickinson, Maura Tierney, Stanley Simons, Holt McCallany, and Lily James. ‘The Iron Claw’ will be released in the United States on December 22, 2023.
