The Last of Us confirms its success on HBO Max, but lags behind Game of Thrones

The series, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey is a smash hit for HBO, second only to the last two seasons of Game of Thrones.

More than 30 million HBO Max subscribers have enjoyed The Last of Us, the series based on Naughty Dog’s video game. This was revealed by Warner Bros. Discovery during the company’s recent earnings call, where it reported on the company’s financial results. It should be mentioned that the platform is not available in the UK, so the figures are probably much larger than announced.

With these numbers, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann’s series is not only a real success but has also risen to the top of HBO’s most-watched series. It is the most watched series on the platform in both Europe and Latin America, but has it surpassed Game of Thrones? The truth is that the last two seasons of the series, based on the novels by George R.R. Martin, had more views.

Ellie and Joel, alone in the face of danger

The adaptation of The Last of Us is based on the original game, which tells the harsh journey of two characters in dire straits who gradually get to know each other and enter into a kind of a child-parent relationship. Ellie and Joel travel through the United States ravaged by death and disease. Humanity has succumbed and the survivors do their best to carry on, but the monsters are there... and not all of them are infected, some are very human.

In the heat of the series, PlayStation and Naughty Dog took the opportunity to launch The Last of Us Part I, a remake of the first installment in the saga, which was first released on PS5. The PC version, which debuted on the platform last March, was one of the most criticized ports. It came out broken and with numerous performance issues.

The Last of Us has been renewed for a second season.
