Naughty Dog

The Last of Us Part 2 players on PC will have to swallow the controversial measure that Helldivers 2 had to correct

The game is scheduled for release next April on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

The Last of Us Parte 2

PC gamers may not like the idea of an extra account, but PlayStation is making a comeback with The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered. Naughty Dog’s title will be the company’s first single-player game to force users to open a PSN account, a decision that has been controversial in the past, although the requirement has only been used in multiplayer titles. This was the case with the defenestrated Concord and Helldivers 2, although the latter was forced to backtrack after receiving heavy criticism.

The truth is that one of the main problems of this decision goes beyond the inconvenience of having to register and log into an account other than Steam and Epic Games Store, since PSN is not available in all countries. In other words, it will be impossible to play if the user is not connected to PlayStation Network. Considering that it is not operational in some places, part of the community will be left without The Last of Us Part 2 on PC.

They want it to be part of the same ecosystem: PlayStation

From a business point of view, it is in Sony Interactive Entertainment’s interest to have all its games operate under the PSN umbrella, as this will allow them to add these players to their total mass of users. In addition, like Xbox, PlayStation envisions a more cross-platform future, but the ecosystem will remain that of its own platform, whether on PS5 or other devices.

The Last of Us Part 2 will be released next April 3 on Steam and the Epic Games Store. The video game’s debut will practically coincide with the premiere of the series' second season, which will air on HBO in March.
