The Last of Us Part II Remastered is restoring 3 lost levels cut from the original release

Naughty Dog has revealed what players can expect from the Lost Levels coming to The Last of Us Part II Remastered, which restores content that didn’t make it to the original.

It’s been a great year for The Last of Us, as aside from the release of The Last of Us Part 1, we also got the amazing first season of the HBO Adaptation with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. And while the long-awaited Factions multiplayer game is missing in action, PlayStation has gone ahead an announced the release of The Last of Us Part II Remastered.

With the game having released not that long ago, a simple graphical update doesn’t really mean that much for the title. This is why fans are overjoyed to hear that the game will come with a new roguelike mode that’ll let you play as many other characters that haven’t been playable in the series before, as well as the addition of 3 new “Lost Levels” to the story mode. Now, the devs at Naughty Dog have revealed the first details about what these actually are, and how they might fit into the campaign.

The Lost Levels of The Last of Us Part II Remastered restore cut content

According to the game’s PlayStation Store page, players will be able to “explore early-development versions of three new levels not seen in the original The Last of Us Part II: Sewers, Jackson Party and Boar Hunt.”

The titles of these levels are already quite revealing for those who have completed the campaign before, as some of those could fit neatly into other moments of the story: Sewers could very well be the dangerous path Ellie takes to infiltrate the Hospital, while Jackson Party might expand on the beginning hours of the story.

However, they’ve been defined as “early-development”, which might imply that when they’re released we could be looking at incomplete stages of the game. Perhaps this means that this content won’t actually be integrated into the story mode at all, instead being present as playable extras in the game for fans to explore, as a sort of interactive museum exposition.

The remaster will be released at the regular game price for those who don’t own the original, and for those who do, Sony will give them the option to upgrade to the PS5 for just $10. We wonder if its release means that Naughty Dog has finally scrapped multiplayer for The Last of Us 2. Was it going to be released alongside this revision and now that it’s been canceled, is that why it’s being released alone?
