‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 gives us our first official look at the return of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey)
We finally have our first looks at Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey returning to ‘The Last of Us’ in Season 2, and it all hints towards a harrowing time.
During these last few months, information about the second season of ‘The Last of Us’, the award-winning HBO series based on the video game franchise of the same name by Naughty Dog and PlayStation has been hard to come by. But finally, the day has come when those responsible have deigned to show the appearance of Joel and Ellie (Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey) in the new season of the series, which is set to adapt the events of the game The Last of Us: Part II. These are the first official images of its protagonists.
‘The Last of Us’ season 2: first look at Joel and Ellie
The first official images of the series were shown at the presentation of the Warner Bros. Discovery Upfront event in New York. In them, we can see what both Joel and Ellie look like now, visibly more mature since the events of the first season. This second season adapts the second video game in the saga, set a few years after the first part, which explains the aging of the characters.
In the case of Joel, we can see Pedro Pascal now has longer hair, but grayer, with more facial hair than the one we saw with his character in the first season.
With respect to Ellie, problems arise, reminiscent of the criticism the actress received as soon as her casting decision became known. Ramsey has a face and facial features that are too “child-like”, which makes the supposed passage of years practically imperceptible. This Ellie is no longer a teenager, but rather a young adult in her late twenties, and more seasoned after her adventure with Joel.
When does the second season of ‘The Last of Us’ premiere? What will it be about?
The second season of ‘The Last of Us’ will premiere in 2025, and it will be broadcast exclusively on Max although there is no more specific release date for now. Considering many previous casting decisions, everything indicates that the events of the second video game in the saga will be adapted: The Last of Us: Part II.
‘The Last of Us’ tells Joel and Ellie’s odyssey in a post-apocalyptic world due to a mutation of the Cordyceps fungus that infects humans and turns them into wild and extremely violent beasts. Joel is given the mission to protect Ellie at all costs and take her to a safe place, as it may be the key to finding a possible cure.
Both Joel and Ellie will have to face their own sins and the trail of death they left in their wake during the first season, with characters related to their past who will burst into their lives thirsty for revenge. For now, this is what is known about the actors chosen for other key characters in the new season:
- Gabriel Luna comes back as Tommy.
- Wesley Routine comes back as Maria.
- Kaitlyn Dever will play Abby.
- Isabela Merced will play Dina.
- Young Mazino will be Jesse.
- Ariera Barer will be Mel, Tai Gabrielle will be Nora, Spencer Lord will be Owen and Danny Ramirez will be Manny.
Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann are in charge of the scripts for ‘The Last of Us’, as happened during the first season.

It was one of the most anticipated projects by both video game fans and HBO subscribers during 2023, and this second season is causing even greater expectations.
