The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake officially revealed for Nintendo Switch 2, coming in 2026
One of the most iconic Zelda games returns with a new version for Switch 2.
This morning’s Nintendo Direct was a mix of new titles, updates on existing games, a few surprises, and many titles finally making their debut on the Nintendo Switch 2. But as always, Nintendo saves the best for last, and this time, the rumors were true: the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is real.
The teaser shown during the Nintendo Direct gives us a quick glimpse of the setting, featuring Hyrule and the Kokiri—all accompanied by a fairy, except for one. The teaser ends with a shot of young Link asleep, followed by the classic Ocarina of Time logo, confirming that the game will be released this year. For now, Nintendo hasn’t revealed any further details, but everything points to it being similar to what’s being done with Star Fox, where, in addition to improved visuals, there will be some kind of update. With six months still to go, we’ll have to wait for more details.

Since The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was released on November 23, 1998, for the Nintendo 64, it has become one of the company’s most frequently ported games. While its legendary status (no pun intended) places it on a very high pedestal, the ease with which it can be played today means that its remake must achieve something exceptional compared to what it did nearly 28 years ago. For now, the game is available in the following versions:
- The original game: If you have the original Nintendo 64 cartridge, go ahead.
- The version included in The Legend of Zelda: Collector’s Edition: This Nintendo GameCube disc included the first two NES Zelda games along with Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask.
- Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D: This is the Nintendo 3DS remake released in 2011. It features updated graphics and features exclusive to the console.
- On Nintendo Switch and Switch 2: Thanks to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, you can access all kinds of classics from the NES, SNES, Game Boy Advance, and Nintendo 64, among other platforms. Of course, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo 64 is included and is a great option for playing the original game, as it’s the most up-to-date version available.
