The Mandalorian: what happened to the Darksaber at the end of Season 3?

Tarre Vizsla’s weapon is one of the biggest symbols in The Mandalorian and the culture the show focuses on, but after Season 3, what’s going on with the Darksaber?

Update:
Star Wars: The Mandalorian

The Darksaber has had different owners since the time of the Clone Wars. Created by Tarre Vizsla, an ancient Jedi that was the first Mandalorian to ever join the monastic organization, the weapon became part of the tradition of his people. Only the one who possesses it after being victorious in single combat -with nuances, of course- is worthy of leading the Mandalorians. Pre Vizsla, Darth Maul, Gar Saxon, Sabine Wren, Moff Gideon, Bo-Katan, and Din Djarin have been some of those who have wielded the legendary saber, but in what hands did it end up in the final episode of the third season of The Mandalorian?

This article contains spoilers for the final episode of the season.

This is what happens with the Dark Saber

Bo-Katan Kryze saved Din Djarin from certain death during his first tour of Mandalore. The Mandalorian, who never yearned to lead his people, gave the Darksaber to Satine’s sister without a fight between them. The justification she provided to the rest of the Mandalorians is that since she saved him, she has every right to be the legitimate owner of the weapon.

Some time later, already in the last episode of this season, Bo-Katan and company have returned to Mandalore to reconquer the planet, but they find a secret imperial base. The fight escalates and Moff Gideon makes an appearance. From that moment on, Din Djarin puts up a fight, although he soon receives help from Bo-Katan herself, Darksaber in hand, thrusting non-stop. Unfortunately, the mighty beskar armor of the imperial officer ruins the weapon, which falls to the ground sizzling and sparking.

Finally, the Darksaber runs the same luck as Moff Gideon himself: an Imperial cruiser manned by Axe Woves crashes into the base and explodes. The mythical saber and Gideon disappear into the flames, while Bo-Katan finds her way to her proclamation as Mandalore’s leader.

The first three seasons of The Mandalorian are now available in full on Disney+. The next big live action series will be Ahsoka, which will be released in August 2023.
