The end of the third season of The Mandalorian has arrived. Some of the open plot threads from the beginning have been closed, although there are still loose ends related to the greater context of the galaxy, which will continue to be developed into other Star Wars products. The fate of Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), the villain of the series, has been sealed in this final chapter, but what exactly happened to him?
This article contains spoilers for the final episode.
Has Moff Gideon died?
Din Djarin was imprisoned by the remnants of the Empire, but his captivity is short-lived. After freeing himself from his restraints, it is clear to him that he must confront Moff Gideon and finish him off once and for all. If he doesn’t, he risks being chased over and over again by him and his army. The Mandalorian, along with Grogu and Bo-Katan, end up in an agonizing fight against the high-ranking Imperial official. In parallel, Axe Woves is about to crash an Imperial cruiser to destroy the base built by Gideon.
Moff Gideon, so lustrous in his beskar armor, is engulfed by flames when the cruise ship explodes into a thousand pieces. Meanwhile, Grogu protects Mando and Bo-Katan by creating a barrier of protection through the Force. There’s no doubt that fire burns Gideon up, so surviving it seems utterly insane, so unless Jon Favreau or Dave Filoni say otherwise, Gincarlo Esposito’s character is nothing but ash on Mandalore. Then again, Vader survived burning up in a volcano…
The possibility of a clone of Moff Gideon existing is apparently not very probable, since they have been destroyed. On the other hand, there is a crazy theory that the version of Moff Gideon that we have seen in these episodes is a clone because he does not have the mustache from the first and second seasons. Let everyone think what they want...
The Mandalorian has been renewed for a fourth season, whose scripts have already been written.
