The new Android Auto update won’t be available to everyone: here are the users who won’t get it
Some of the new features are reserved for only a few vehicles.
A good navigation app has become an essential tool for most drivers. Among the various options available, Android Auto is one of the most popular, and it’s now receiving a major update with which Google aims to take Maps to the next level. The update features a more modern interface, more accurate navigation, a cleaner design, and new smart shortcuts on the side of the screen.
The main new feature is the new 3D map. Instead of the traditional flat lines on a gray background, Google Maps will display buildings, overpasses, and even parts of the surrounding area in greater detail. It also includes clearly visible traffic lights, stop signs, and more accurately depicted lanes, making it easier to navigate the city and reducing the chances of getting lost.
Features that, for now, will be reserved for newer cars
The update also marks a significant difference among vehicles compatible with Google Maps. Some features, such as real-time camera-based lane guidance, will be available exclusively in cars that come with Google built-in from the factory.

“Some apps, such as Gemini and Maps, work best in vehicles with built-in Google features,” explains the company itself, which says it has “worked closely with automakers to ensure full integration with the vehicle’s hardware.” As a result, models that lack this integration will not be able to access all the improvements, which could lead to less accurate navigation and a reduced ability to detect unexpected road closures, traffic jams, or other traffic incidents.
