The new ‘Avengers’ movie will have over 60 Marvel superheroes
Shawn Levy, director of ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’, is Marvel Studio’s favorite choice to direct the next massive superhero crossover of the MCU.
‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ is the biggest asset Marvel Studios has for 2025 - not in small part because it will also be the only MCU release of the year - but Kevin Feige is already preparing what will be the first major crossover since ‘Avengers: Endgame’.
The next installment in the ‘Avengers’ series was until recently accompanied by the subtitle ‘The Kang Dynasty’, although after the dismissal of Jonathan Majors both the plot and its title have been left up in the air. Now, it’s been revealed that the film aspires to have over 60 Marvel superheroes, in addition to the fact that Shawn Levy -director of ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ itself- would be Marvel Studios’ favorite choice to take charge of the long-awaited crossover.
Who will direct the most ambitious crossover in the MCU?
As reported by Deadline, Shawn Levy, director of movies like ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’, ‘The Adam Project’, ‘Free Guy’, and ‘Real Steel’, among others, seems to be in already advanced negotiations with Marvel Studios to take charge of directing the next ‘Avengers’ movie, all after Destin Daniel Cretton exited the project in favor of focusing on the sequel to ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’. Of course, at the moment it has not been officially confirmed that Levy will take charge of the most ambitious MCU crossover so far.
That is exactly how the next ‘Avengers’ movie is being defined, since the goal of the studio is to have more than 60 Marvel superheroes parade through the film, thus surpassing the figures of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and its colossal final battle. Among the best-known faces, we will find names like those of Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Strange), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), and Karen Gillian (Nebula), to name some of the already known characters of previous phases of the MCU.
‘Avengers 5′ is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 1, 2026, while ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, which aims to be the ultimate multiversal crossover, will not arrive in movie theaters until May 7, 2027, with it being a colossal five-hour film divided into two parts, as noted by Marvel some time ago.
