The Nintendo Switch 2 ‘trick’ that helps to increase battery life and that the console itself offers
A small adjustment in the settings menu will give a longer battery life.
Battery management is one of those skills that not everyone considers, but it is tremendously useful for extending the life of devices of all kinds. Recognizing that most people are not educated in this area, companies strive to automate optimal behavior. However, it is always necessary for the user to give his or her consent and be aware of what he or she is doing. This is what Nintendo has done with the Switch 2, offering an option to enable (which we recommend).
Nintendo has incorporated into Switch 2 a specific function to preserve the long-term health of the battery. This feature, accessible from the settings menu, allows limiting the maximum battery charge to 90%, a practice that has already been adopted by other technology manufacturers, such as Samsung and Apple, have already adopted this practice for their mobile devices.
A highly recommended option for extending the battery
The option, called “Stop battery charging at 90%”, is located in the “Console” section of the system configuration menu. When enabled, the console automatically stops charging when the battery reaches 90% of its capacity, reducing the chemical stress to which the battery is subjected during repeated full charges.
Nintendo explained that although the load could occasionally reach 100% to properly calibrate the battery indicator, the feature is designed to minimize this behavior and thus prolong the component’s life. This measure addresses the degradation issues inherent in battery-powered devices and the accusations of “planned obsolescence” that are so common today.
