‘The Rings of Power’ Season 3 reveals first trailer at San Diego Comic-Con 2026
Prime Video also confirmed Simon Pegg as the voice of the Balrog and announced the season’s November release date.
Prime Video used its San Diego Comic-Con 2026 panel to unveil the first trailer for ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ season three, offering a first look at the next chapter of the Second Age saga as Sauron’s campaign against Middle-earth escalates.
One of the panel’s biggest announcements was the casting of Simon Pegg, who will provide the voice of the Balrog introduced during the second season finale. The ancient creature awoke beneath the Misty Mountains after the Dwarves’ continued mining for mithril, setting up what is expected to become a larger conflict in the episodes ahead.
Prime Video also confirmed several additions to the cast. Eddie Marsan will portray Thrain, the older brother of King Durin IV, while Andrew Richardson has been cast as Anárion, the younger son of Elendil and brother of Isildur. Adam Young joins the series as Marnûkh, a new Orc character. They join previously announced cast members Jamie Campbell Bower as Celeborn and Zubin Varla as Khamûl the Easterling.
Middle-earth Faces War
Prime Video also released the official synopsis for the new season: “In Season 3, Middle-earth is at war. Five years have passed since the fall of Eregion. Sauron’s armies have marched across the whole of the world, conquering all in their path. Only a few isolated pockets stand between the Dark Lord and total victory — Khazad-dûm, where the Dwarves are now sealed deep within their mountain halls, and the elven realms of Lindon and Rivendell, which are protected by their Three Rings. But deep in the land of Mordor, in his newly completed tower of Barad-dûr, the Dark Lord toils day and night, obsessed with harnessing a power that will bring the last of his enemies to their knees: One Ring to rule them all... Now, all the free peoples of Middle-earth — Dwarves, Elves, Men, and Wizards alike — must find a way to come together, in a race against time to prevent Sauron from achieving his goal of utter domination of all life…”
The third season will also introduce the Nazgnagôl, early Second Age figures who eventually become the Nazgûl, or Ringwraiths, seen in The Lord of the Rings. Their inclusion suggests the series will begin exploring how Sauron corrupted the nine Men who accepted the Rings of Power.
