The Sims 5 (Project Rene) stalls in development and one version has been canceled

Is it time to say “Dag Dag” to Project Rene on consoles?

The Sims 5 (Project Rene) stalls in development and one version has been canceled

‘Project Rene’, the future of The Sims franchise, has hit a rough patch in its development and one of its versions has apparently been canceled.

This information, which should be considered a rumor, comes after changes were made to the LinkedIn profile of a former Maxis employee, according to X (formerly Twitter) user SimmerBerkay. In the published images of this former employee’s profile, it is mentioned that in his experience he worked as a lead character artist at Maxis, contributing to the PlayStation 5 version of The Sims 5, which runs on Unreal Engine 5. However, he mentions that this project, and thus the version for this console, has been canceled.

For the moment, Electronic Arts has made no mention of this case. For now, we can only assume that the PC version of The Sims 5 is still on the table, while the alleged console versions have been pushed aside.

Project Rene, what is known about it?

The next step in ‘The Sims’ franchise is currently known as Project Rene, which Lyndsay Pearson, creative vice president of the franchise, introduced as “the next generation of The Sims as a game and as a creative platform.

It was officially announced in October 2022, and until then, much of the information came from leaks or, as in the case of this report, from publications on LinkedIn, such as that the title would be free-to-play or, more recently, that parts of its map and objects had supposedly been fixed. At the time, Pearson commented that the title was still years away, promising that in the next few years Maxis would “share updates with all of you on Project Rene.”

‘The Sims 4′ turns 10 this September, has just received a romance-focused expansion, and has been free-to-play for two years.
