The Sims 5 revealed: map, objects and ambitious gameplay leaked
A user leaked a lot of data about Project René, codename of The Sims 5, where we can see it in motion.
Electronic Arts is not afraid of leaks. Project Rene, the codename of The Sims 5, is already in the hands of some users who have not hesitated to share the material on social media. The new installment prepares an ambitious plan to evolve the gameplay of the franchise to the next level. The leaked material corresponds to the Android version, but the structure will remain intact in the desktop version.
What news has been leaked about The Sims 5?
The leak has occurred both in the form of video and text. The user u/DzXAnt22 has published on Reddit (you can watch it here) almost seven minutes of pure gameplay of the game, where we can see some relevant improvements. The first is the way the spaces work. Contrary to the grid system that has accompanied the saga since its inception, Project Rene relies on a free system that allows flexibility never seen here.
Just look at the placement of the objects. For example, the chair in 1:31. A single object can be customized in many ways, from the chassis to the elements on top of it. A seat cushion can be placed in a variety of ways, either lying down or trying to place it at an angle to support it.
The layout of the apartment is disconcerting compared to what The Sims 4 is used to, taking the last installment as a reference. The build that users have access to still has no character, but we have seen what the creative perspective of its new design is. The cartoony look of the fourth installment is still present, but the shapes are less restrictive. There is a greater variety of body shapes than before.
The map that appears at minute 5 is a small neighborhood full of apartments typical of any European capital. That they are all accessible is still a mystery, but their presence suggests that Maxis wants to introduce the player to an interactive and diverse residential neighborhood beyond the duplex developments.
When will The Sims 5 be released? It is a mystery that has no answer for the moment. Project René as such was announced in 2022 so that the development, still in its early stages, would be in collaboration with the community. We even had a chat with Lyndsay Pearson, VP of Creative for the Sims franchise. Two years later, according to the leaked material, testing is still going on.
