Maxis

The Sims 5 will be free to download, how will it be expanded?

The base game will be free and will receive content updates, both paid and free: all the details.

Update:
Los Sims 5, free-to-play, gratis

It will not be necessary to pay to play The Sims 5, the new installment of the Maxis franchise, still known under the codename Project Rene. Electronic Arts confirmed this in a video in which it revealed interesting details about the game. Lindsey Pearson, Creative Vice President of the brand, has clarified that the base game will be “free-to-download,” so there will be no need to make an initial payment at launch. Of course, there will be a variety of free and paid content packs available to players.

“Project Rene will be Free to Download. This means that when Project Rene is ready and fully open to players, you will be able to join, play, and explore it without a subscription, core game purchase or energy mechanics,” she said in the video.

Pearson explained that the idea is to make it easy to invite a friend or join a game, which is why they chose this model. “We’re bringing everyone along with us every step of the way for Project Rene.” According to her words, this means that there will be different phases of development, ranging from “closed invites to small public playtests or early access options.”

What will be free and what will be paid in The Sims 5?

Although the game will be “free to download” (or “free to play” in more common parlance), the content will not be on par with what is currently available in the fourth installment. “We want to focus on building something solid and cohesive from the start, so we won’t start with everything we have in The Sims 4, but we will add new experiences and content over time.

In addition to updates to the base game, the title will receive paid content and packs. “While it won’t begin with everything you have in The Sims 4, we plan to add new experiences and content to Project Rene over time. For example, basic weather may be added to the core game for free, for everybody. And in the future, a pack for purchase may be focused on winter sports with activities like ice dancing or a snowman building competition.”

Is The Sims 4 saying goodbye?

Nothing could be further from the truth. Management has clarified that both will coexist over time. “We will continue to support both at the same time and will plan to bring more exciting content to The Sims 4 community for the foreseeable future.”

The free-to-play model has also been explored in The Sims 4, which is available for free on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC. Don’t miss out on all the game’s cheats.
