The single-player mode for Marvel Tôkon: Fighting Souls is written by one of the great authors of the 21st century
The renowned British writer will be in charge of the Episodes Mode for Marvel Tôkon: Fighting Souls, featuring five story arcs centered on the game’s teams.

Despite being considered among the top studios when it comes to fighting games, Arc System Works’ titles have rarely stood out for their single-player modes. Let’s hope that “Episode Mode”—which is what it will be called in Marvel Tôkon: Fighting Souls—changes that trend, and so far, everything points to that being the case. For now, the story will be written by one of the 21st century’s most prominent comic book writers, Kieron Gillen.

Who is Kieron Gillen, the writer of the single-player mode for Marvel Tôkon: Fighting Souls?
A 50-year-old British writer, Gillen began his career in video game journalism, writing for websites such as PC Gamer UK, The Escapist, The Guardian, Eurogamer, and Edge, among many others, and founded the website Rock Paper Shotgun in 2007. He holds the distinction of being the first video game journalist to receive the PPA (Periodical Publishers Association) award, and he is an avowed fan of the work of Warren Spector, creator of games such as Deus Ex, Thief, and Epic Mickey.
In 2003, he began publishing his first comic book work, with comic strips in various media, until 2006, when he launched ‘Phonogram’—a series that ran for no less than 10 years and which Warren Ellis himself described as “one of the few essential works of this year.” It was in 2008 that he began working for Marvel, with short stories featuring Dazzler and Beta Ray Bill, until 2010, when he took over from Matt Fraction as the writer of the ‘Uncanny X-Men’ series.

‘The Wicked + The Divine’—arguably his best and most acclaimed work—was first released in 2014. Over the course of five years, Gillen crafted a unique story set in a world where, every 90 years, twelve gods are reincarnated as young pop stars—but are doomed to die within two years. Other notable works include ‘Star Wars: Darth Vader,’ ‘Young Avengers,’ and ‘DIE.’
What Gillen will present in the single-player mode of Marvel Tôkon: Fighting Souls is a series of five story arcs featuring each of the five teams that make up the game’s roster.
Marvel Tôkon: Fighting Souls is coming to PS5 and PC on August 6.
