The unknown character from ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ that could turn the series on its head

The return of all the major players from the first three seasons in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ was great news for fans. Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio will reunite as the Guardian Devil and Wilson Fisk, as will others like Foggy Nelson, Karen Page, Frank Castle/The Punisher, Ben Poindexter/Bullseye... But we will also enjoy the presence of new faces such as White Tiger, Muse, and one that a priori does not seem to have much relevance, but could make Matt Murdock’s life take a 180 degree turn.

Spoilers for Chip Zdarsky’s run on ‘Daredevil’ are listed below.

Who is Agent Cole North, one of the new characters in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’?

North makes his 2019 debut in the pages of ‘Daredevil’ by screenwriter Chip Zdarsky, and he is a police officer transferred from Chicago to the New York department. North is an honorable cop with a strong sense of duty, but he rejects the mask, claiming that he is responsible for fighting crime without the privilege of hiding his face. This soon generates some animosity among his new colleagues, who have received help from many of New York’s heroes, such as Spider-Man or Daredevil himself, putting behind bars the most dangerous criminals of the Big Apple and Hell’s Kitchen, even saving their lives.

But North is not “intoxicated” by the heroes' influence; in fact, he has specific instructions from Wilson Fisk (here, the mayor of New York) to fight them: he believes that none of them should be above the law and answer for their actions like any other citizen. This becomes clear when Daredevil accidentally kills a robber in a seemingly innocuous brawl, leading the Man Without Fear to be persistently pursued by the officer and brought to justice.

Eventually, and despite Foggy Nelson’s efforts to get him to reconsider, Daredevil turns himself in to the police and makes a deal with the prosecution to serve two years in prison. Fortunately for the residents of Hell’s Kitchen, millionaire Elektra Natchios buys most of the buildings in the neighborhood, preventing the eviction of many and taking Matt Murdock’s place as Daredevil.
