Metacritic

These are Metacritic’s 10 worst games of 2023 so far

While most people are looking at who GOTY 2023 is going to be, we can’t forget the fumbles and undesirables of the year either.

Update:

We have passed the halfway point of the year and as usual, despite the fact that there are still months to go before we get closer to the final stretch and there are many important launches that are yet to come, as is the case with Starfield, some are already taking stock of everything we’ve experienced in 2023. When the time comes, we will see who wins the GOTY 2023, but in the meantime, let’s take a look at the winners(?) on the other side of the scale:the worst games of the year.

Just like there are titles that receive a 10 and are exalted in practically all media such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom there are others who suffer just the opposite. To give you an example, you already know what happened with Redfall, Arkane’s multiplayer vampire FPS... Anyway, let’s get to what really matters: here’s the list with the 10 worst games of 2023 according to Metacritic.

The worst games of 2023 on Metacritic

The following list takes the scores from Metacritic for the games released in 2023 with the worst average rating, focusing on the version with the lowest rating.

  • Colossal Cave | score: 54
  • Everybody 1-2-Switch | score: 54
  • Ravenbound | score: 54
  • The Last Worker | score: 53
  • Redfall | score: 53
  • Crime Boss: Rockay City | score: 52
  • Clive ‘N’ Wrench | score: 50
  • Loop8: Summer of Gods | score: 47
  • Greyhill Incident | score: 37

The Worst Game of the Year 2023 Award goes to…

The Lords of the Rings: Gollum! With a score of 34, it was a game awaited by fans of The Lord of the Rings and its responsible studio had given us the occasional good title on more than one occasion. The failed launch of Gollum’s adventure in Middle-earth led to one of those news that we never like to give: the closure of Daedalic Entertainment and the cancellation of the second game based on the J. R. R. Tolkien license.
